ook. so im getting braces inna bout 2monthhs, annd im kinda nervous. im getting pink braces annnnd i neeed some tips. will they hurt????? im reallllly scared. how long does it take.? any help/
Hey! I was really scared when I first got my braces, an the whole month or two before i even got spacers. So, I'll start from about day 1 to the end.
SPACERS:
Spacers hurt a little, but advil, ibuprofen, or motrin will help. Be very careful with what you eat, as most orthodontists will tell you no crunchy food. Mine were just blue tiny rubber band circles that go in between two teeth. This will allow more space for the brackets to go on.
BRACES GO ON:
So, the big day is here. Braces. You're probably scared, but maybe since I'm writing this, you might no be as scared. First, make sure your teeth look good and that you brush them. The orthodontist will put a type of face thing on you that will pull your lips and mouth back, for easier reach to all your teeth. If your lips are really dry, put on loads of chap stick. That helped me. This will be uncomfortable, as it was for me, but just relax. When you stress, it pulls muscles around your mouth that will hurt. There is a holder for your tongue to keep it back. This is what hurt me. I would always try to push it forward, but don't do that. My tongue wasn't long enough! Lil. But anyways, Next they will put some glue on your teeth, and use cotton to dry out all your saliva. (they may give you a pill to take before so that your mouth will be dry when you get there. they did to me.)
They place each bracket on each tooth, and stick a wire through. That about it and it takes around 45 minutes.
CHECK-UPS:
Every so often they will change your wire, according to how your teeth are moving. There are some things that they can put on your teeth to help them:
~ Palate Expander
~ Bite Plate
~ Rubber Bands
are some of them
A palate expander widens the top of your mouth when it is smaller than the bottom. It will hurt. I'm sorry to say this because I want to be positive with you, but the truth is, that this will hurt. It leaves a mark on your tongue from where it is when you sleep. It is a wire that wraps around your teeth and sits at the top of your mouth. I couldn't eat for 2 weeks, and lost 8 pounds, so apparently its a weight loss program:) Lil. Its hard to eat with and you cant take it out. You will get the hang of it though.
I had mine for 6 months, but its different for each person.
A bite plate is a retainer looking thing that pops in and out of your mouth. You sleep with it and don't eat with it. There isn't much to it but to keep it clean and don't keep it out for even as long as a day. It will move your teeth back( oh and this simply moves the space back together that the palate expander creates.) and you can't fit it in good.
Rubber bands bring the top and bottom together. They just slip over the little bumps on the 3 brackets on 6 sides.
GETTING YOUR BRACES OFF:
No big deal AT ALL!You'll be so excited nothing will be bad!
Great luck Best wishes and hope I helped! (sorry its so long)
I got braces a couple of days ago. I had spacers (the rubber bands) for a few days before and they didn't hurt or bother me at all.
It takes like half an hour to put glue on and stick the squares on and stuff, and I thought it would be really uncomfortable, but it's not so bad. Then you just let them dry and get the wire put in. Doesn't hurt. Seriously.
Now, they are aching a bit, but that's just because the teeth are moving, and it's not REALLY bad. I can still eat and stuff without extreme pain, as long as I don't eat hard food.
The only thing I find annoying is brushing them. It's quite hard, and my orthodontist didn't give me any little brushes or anything to help. :@ But I guess it's OK. Don't worry about it. Good Luck!
ha if only you had asked this next week on wednesday considering i am getting mine then, but i can tell you that you might get spacers which actually do hurt (spacers are rubber bands that go between your teeth to create a gap to make room for your braces)
for some they dont hurt but mine did on the seconds day so if ya get spacers then try not to eat hard food or sticky food because that might hurt or push them out.
im not sure about braces but my dad had them and he said that they hurt for the first few days, but dont be scared becuase you will get used to them and it will al be worth it in the long run =D
Well if you take aspirin you'll be fine. They will hurt for a while but like I said you can take aspirin, also you will only get to eat soft food and soup.
