Seachem Prime users...?

I have never used Prime before and just use to the way I have been neutralizing my tap water for water changes. I use gallon jugs and add 7 drops of Tetra Aquasafe plus and do the water change. Is Prime used in the same way??? Can you add the 2 drops and do the water change or do you have to let it sit for a while? Not into adding a lot of chemicals to my tanks, just confused how to use this product. Thanks.

  • Seachem Prime is a great product I use for a lot of my big tanks. Its like a 3 in 1. It declorinates first of all. You can use it during water changes, swirl around the directed amount in the water (I always wait 2 minutes as a rule to myself), and then pour the nice clean water in.

If you have high ammonia or nitrites it lowers those and it stabilizes the PH as well but if you don't have these problems its just good as a declorinator.

If you read the back it will tell you the normal amount. Normally its 5ml for 20 gallons.

  • Prime, in addition to neutralizing heavy metals, detoxifies nitrites and other nasty things. Detoxifying in short means that the carbon in the filter will have an easier time picking them up out of the water column.

When adding it to your tank after a water change, just follow the directions. I believe they say that you add the amount of Prime you would use for an entire tank volume if you add it directly to the tank (so for example if you had a 50 gallon tank and you were putting the Prime directly into the tank, you would add 15ml or whatever). If you want to let it sit, put the amount of Prime you would use for the volume of the bucket into the bucket. Letting it sit will just save you Prime, really, and because I have a smaller tank (20g) and I use 5g buckets I just add the amount of Prime for 20g into my tank prior to putting the new water in.

    Cheers!
