Graphics card?

Hi, I currently have an onboard graphics card, if I buy new graphics card do I physically remove the onboard graphics card out or does it just stay in the machine. If yes how do I remove it?

Thanks

Update:

Have not bought my new card yet still browsing- thinking of the Inno3D Geforce 8400GS 256MB DDR2 PCI Express Graphics Card

  • You can not remove the onboard card as it is a build in thing on the mother board. You can only disable it.

  • The video card is the device in a computer that outputs visual information to the monitor. Video cards are also called video adapters or graphics cards. GPUs get faster and faster with each generation. Now they are at the point where they no longer give a benefit to certain monitors. Without a graphics card to perform the necessary calculations. There is no such thing as a perfect video card for all situations, but by ... social media consultant

  • DON'T GET A DDR2 CARD!!

Now, really, what do you need a new card for, and what's your budget? If it's for movies and so on, grab a new HD3400 from ATI. You get a ton of features for about $50, including DirectX 10.1 and Shader Model 4.1 (those look good on paper, practically you won't be able to play any DirectX 10 game on it, maybe only on lowest detail settings).

I won't get further. Regarding the rest of your questions, the guys that answered before already told you - the onboard card can't be removed, you simply disable it and that's all.

  • Hi,

To physically remove it you need to take a hammer and a spike.

You will start by hitting strongly the part where...only jocking!!

    haha

As the other user said, you will disable the chipset for the integrated graphic card from the bios, uninstall the drivers if you had some.

Then, what is your new card, you need to check if you have a AGP (old) or pci-express slots, so you can plug your new card!

And again, installing the proper drivers!

  • No, stays in the machine, you just need to go into your bios and disable it.

Based on your question, sounds like you don't know much about pc hardware, so I should ad: Video cards are in 3 basic forms, AGP, PCI-E, and pci. Make sure your computer has a slot for video. It should be either AGP or PCI-E, if not you need to purchase a pci video card. You can't just go to Best Buy and buy a video card and put it into any computer.

  • Your onboard graphics card cannot be removed, it is built into your motherboard. You have to uninstall if from "add/remove" programs. Afterwards, install your new graphics card to prevent any confusion between both graphics card, you have to uninstall the previous card first.

  • on board means the gpu is part of the motherboard, it cant be removed. all you need to do is install the separate card in the right slot and it will take over (install all the drivers and software obviously). easy

  • you cannot remove the hardware form the motherboard. you can disable it in the bois though. just make sure your new video card is working fine before you disable your onboard card.

  • Actually, when you install the new card, the onboard card (physically part of the motherboard) will be disabled.

  • If you mean an integrated graphics card then you just leave it in, heck, getting it out would be hard, being part of the motherboard and all.
