Algebra 2 word problem! Please help!?

You can jog at a speed of 8 miles per hour, and run at a speed of 12 miles per hour. If you traveled 6 miles in 40 minutes, find the amount of time you jogged as well as the amount of time you ran.

Comments

  • Distance jogged—d:

    d/8 + (6 - d)/12 = 2/3

    3d + 2(6 - d) = 16

    3d + 12 - 2d = 16

    d = 4

    No. of minutes jogging:

    = 60(4 mi/8 mph)

    = 60(1/2 hour)

    = 60/2 or 30 minutes

    No. of minutes running:

    = 60([6 - 4 mi]/12 mph)

    = 60(2 mi/12 mph)

    = 60(1/6 hour)

    = 60/6 or 10 minutes

    Answer: 30 minutes jogging; 10 minutes running

  • 6=8x+12(2/3 - x) Where x is the time in hours.

    6= 8x + 8 -12 x

    6= -4x +8

    4x=2

    x=1/2

    You jogged for 1/2 an hour, and ran for 10 minutes.

  • I will give you this answer if you give me a pic of your bare feet first.
