How do I solve this algebra problem?

((8x-3)/2) - ((5x+2)/2) = 1

Comments

  • ((8x - 3)/2) - ((5x + 2)/2) = 1

    (8x - 3) - (5x + 2) = 2

    3x - 5 = 2

    3x = 7

    x = 2 1/3

  • Expand:

    8x/2 -3/2 - 5x/2 +1 = 1

    Collect terms involving x on one side and numerical terms on the other.

    3x =3/2

    x = 0.5

  • ((8x-3)/2) - ((5x+2)/2) = 1

    the /2 is probably the part that is confusing you so start by multiplying everything by 2

    (8x-3) - (5x+2) = 2

    Now you don't need any of the brackets and you can take it from there.

  • ((8x-3)/2) - ((5x+2)/2) = 1

    (4x-1.5)-(2.5x+1)=1

    Combine like terms.

    1.5x-.5=1

    1.5x=1.5

    x=1

    Hope I helped!
