Why do you vote for a political party?

I'm writing a school project on why people vote (in USA).

Every country is fine though, so please submit the reasons why you vote.

- Thanks

  • You shouldn't vote for a "political party". The short definition of patriotism is to stand beside your country above your political party of preference. I vote for the person who I believe is the best leader for our country, regardless of political party. I most usually lean toward conservative candidates but the only time I have ever voted straight ticket was in the 2008 presidential election and I plan to vote straight ticket in the 2012 election.

  • The purpose of government is not to "help people"

Read your declaration which is our founding document. The founders correctly stated that the sole legitimate purpose of government is to protect the individual rights to life, liberty, and property. They never said it is governments job to help you, only to protect you. It is your job to help yourself.

  • For the one that will help the most people and not poison the planet or blow it up.
