Is sports talk radio necessary? Or even sports columnists?

Its one thing to follow sports, report the latest developments to the fans. Its another to base your entire existence on the idea that other people want to know what you think about a certain team or player. Sportscasters are necessary, yes. As a chicago area resident, however, I can tell you that people are way too interested in sports to begin with. Do we really need people on thge radio talking about it 24 hours a day?

Update:

I think my main problem with sports radio is when the guys get so focused on the off-court, off the field stuff.

  • If you're so upset, here's my suggestion:

    Turn.

    It.

    Off.

  • Sports talk is just a fad. Cheaper to produce for the owner, cheaper ads geared a men 18-45 demographic. Win Win. It will be interesting if they can maintain an audience after the super bowl when you are past football and not yet to baseball, oh that's right the big issue will be Sports Illustrated Swim Suit issue

  • I love it i listen to fox sports radio everyday. Hosts such as Jt the Brick, Jorge Sedano, and Ben Maller not only know what there talking about but there funny also. I like to listen to it because i get to take a break from the same crap that gets played on the radio and i get to put in my opinion on my favorite team to the whole country. I love sports talk radio. Now if we can only get rid of Jim Rome.

  • Do we really need people giving money to opera companies or symphonies? Do we really need video games? Do we really need 3000 square foot houses being built for families of 3 while people are homeless? Do we really need ipods, plasma tv's, 300 cable channels and camera cell phones?

No, we don't NEED any of the above, but we all make choices to pursue the things that interest us. We NEED life and liberty, but we choose our own pursuit of happiness.

Have fun with whatever it is that YOU need.
