Two Quick Algebra II Problems?

Having trouble with 2 problems...

1. Where does y = -2 / 3x^2 have a horizontal asymptote?

2. For what values of x is f(x) = (x - 1)(x + 3)/(x + 1)(x - 2) undefined?

Thanks!!

Comments

  • 1. When x = 0, y = 0. If you plug in all positive and negative numbers for x, the y values are less than 0, so the horizontal asymptote is at y = 0.

    2. The function is undefined when the denominator = 0, which is any value of x for which either of the terms within the parenthesis = 0, or

    x = -1 and +2.

  • 2. when x = -1 and x = 2

    (having that values x+1 = 0 and x - 2 = 0 so f(x) is undefined)

  • a million. [a million+a million/x]/[2+2/x] [[x+a million]/x]/[[2x+2]/x] [x+a million]/[2x+2] [x+a million]/2[X+a million] a million/2 2. the polynomial may be: [x+2][x+a million][x-5] [x^2+3x+2][x-5] x^3-5x^2+x^2-15x+2x-10 x^3-4x^2-13x-10 that's the mandatory polynomial
