Comments

  • add them

    1 3/4 miles + 3 2/3 miles = 5 5/12 miles or 65/12 miles answer//

  • Integers first:

    1 + 3 = 4

    Then the fractions.

    2 3

    ---- + ----- =

    3 4

    3*3 = 9

    2*4 = 8

    So 9+8 = 17 on top;

    3*4 = 12

    So it's

    17

    ------

    12

    Thats

    5

    1 --

    12

    4 (from earlier) + 1 (from now) = 5

    and 5 over 12

    Totalling to:

    5

    5 --

    12

    Miles.

You may have to put it into figures, or just leave it as fraction, but:

1/12 = 0.08333333 (you will have a calculator to work this out, if not left in fraction)

    5 * 0.0833333 = 0.4166666

    .

5.416 (the dot means recurring) miles.

  • First, lets change them both to a fraction

    1 3/4 = 7/4

    3 2/3 = 11/3

Change the denominator to the same, 12.

    7/4 = 21/12

    11/3 = 44/12

    Add. 21/12 + 44/12 = 65/12 miles

    Simplify. 5 5/12 miles

    Answer: 5 5/12 miles

  • 1 + 3/4 + 3 + 2/3 =

    4 + 3/4 + 2/3 =

    4 + 9/12 + 8/12 =

    4 + 17/12 =

    4 + 1 + 5/12 =

    5 5/12

    or

    1 3/4 + 3 2/3 =

    7/4 + 11/3 =

    21/12 + 44/12 =

    65/12 =

    5 5/12

  • 1¾ + 3⅔ = 7/4 + 11/3 mixed numbers converted to improper fractions

    = 21/12 + 44/12 fractions given common denominator

    = 65/12

= 5 5/12 improper fraction converted to mixed number

Hannah walked a total of 5 5/12 miles
