DO NOT USE THE MGX IN SALTWATER! The magnesium frame will corrode in less than a day, even with sufficient rinsing. Just don't do it.
Magnesium frame + saltwater = no bueno
Anyway, I am not a fan of the Ambassadeur REVOlution. I have not seen one in person. I think, IF this particular Ambassadeur is actually made and not engineered in Sweden, then... the Japs are in for a hell of a surprise. In other words, if I personally wanted a REVO, then this sumbitch would be it. It would be hard to put down my Steez, Calais, and Chronarchs.
Definitely get one if you have the money and enough experience and are willing to look after it!, I have owned 3, being the keen fishing enthusiast that i am, i will take it anywhere. It is definitely suited for salt water! trust me, the better fish are in the salt water. As long as you give it a good soaking in fresh water after use, then you will have it for a lifetime! when you are washing it make sure to rinse out every bit of it and get into those tight spots where salt can get easily trapped! lubricate it around once a month and keep it in a case or cover and you should have no problems at all! They have a good ratio and are very smooth, and can hold a good amount of line, you cant go wrong with the MXG or any Abu Garcia product!
The Abu Garcia website list it as BOTH a saltwater & freshwater reel. However...if it were me, I'd get the round Record reel. Why? Those three magic words..."Manufactured in Sweden".
I have a couple of the Revo's, nice reels, I don't have this one but it surely gets the high marks. My knowledge of metals suggest to me I would be hesitant to use it in salt water. It would need stripping, washing, lubing immediately, not the next day. I've rebuilt several abu garcia's that have been used in salt water, it does a job on them.
I don't have one myself. But I've talked to people who have one and they love it. I will always trust anything Abu makes, even their 50$ Black Max is a pretty good reel. I think you will be happy with it. However I would not risk such an expensive reel in saltwater.

EDIT:
A $50 Black Max DOES NOT even compare to the MGX.

Lower price too. The Japanese Garcia products just do not stack up to the "tried & true" Manufactured in Sweden ones.
