Do I qualify for a Cal Grant?

I live in a family for 4 and I'm afraid I can't qualify for Cal Grant because we make "too money." Does FAFSA take into consideration my father is close to retiring and my mother doesn't work at all? My family is making between75-80k but because of assets like other property income may go as high as 90k? Help do I qualify for a cal grant?

  • Fafsa doesn't take into account household assets really. They just need to know the yearly income of both parents together & individually including yourself. Also, they ask how much money is in your account and your parents. After completing the fafsa online, depending on your school you applied for..they will request you to mail documentation such as your parents tax form from the previous year to verify your information. Upon verifying your information, they will then grant you a financial aid award.

It's worth a try and it doesn't hurt to apply. After the application is done, they rate your elgibility like 1-4 or something which will tell you write away what you qualify for. Also, they explain what the #'s mean and what your options are when the app is complete. :)
