  • I did a system restore and my IP address is the same. However, on the internet provider I used to have I had a rotating IP address so maybe that is what he has. The one I have now remains the same. Hope your system restore works well for you.

  • When you connect to the Internet through an Internet Service Provider (ISP), they will give you an IP address using Dynamic Host Connection Protocol (DHCP).

The ISP may use automatic allocation to permanently assign an IP Address to a client, so that would mean you would get the same IP address every time you connect to the Internet fro that ISP.

If you have a static IP address (which costs more money) a permanent IP address is mapped to the client computer based on the MAC address. This is common for web servers, for example.

If you have a router at home that is used as your internet gateway, the router would be assigned the IP Address, and devices connecting to the router would have a private IP address, with a IP address something like 192.168.1.xxx or 192.168.254.xxx

(if the router was programmed using windows the 3rd octet would be a 1, and 254 if it was programmed using linux).

This local IP addressing using such a router would allow 254 devices to be connected.

Each part of an IP address is an 8 bit number. A binary number with eight 1s (1111 1111) = 256. 2 of the numbers is set aside for broadcasting and network use, so that would leave 254 for the number of devices that can connect to this type of network (class C).

  • There are two types of ip addresses.

    1. Dynamic ip address

    2. Static ip address

Your static ip address is assigned specifically to you by your isp and will never change. Your Dynamic ip address will change every time you restart your computer.

  • NO the ip stays the same
