Does Peptic Ulcer disease lead to cancer?

I have Peptic Ulcer (Stomach Ulcer, burn) and I wish to know if this leads to cancer in the future. I have been to the doctor and prescribed me omeprazol medicine. I never asked if this disease leads to cancer but my mother tells me it does. I have been searching on google and I didn't get a clear answer if it does or not. Some says it does, others says it doesn't.

  • Gastric ulcer if not treated properly may change to malignancy.

    Duodenal ulcer will not become malignant but can cause serious life threatening complications like bleeding or perforation.

    It is utmost important to confirm and treat H pylori infection and regular screening in Peptic ulcer.

    Along with medicines life style modification is must.

  • It does not automatically lead to cancer. Treated peptic ulcer disease can be healed over time with the use of medications. Your mother is misinformed. If you would leave this untreated, then it might be possible that this would increase your risk of stomach cancer over the years.

  • Possible Complications of peptic ulcer:-

    * Bleeding inside the body (internal bleeding)

    * Gastric outlet obstruction

    * Inflammation of the tissue that lines the wall of the abdomen (peritonitis)

    * Perforation of the stomach and intestines.

    Cigarette smoking may cause stomach cancer.

  • I wouldnt think so. And 1 joint doesnt equal 20 cigarettes damn people are dumb. I supposedly equals 4. But the stuff in cigarettes such as tar and poisons is whats bad about it. Id ask a doctor though just give them a call.
