4 months after childbirth. no menstural cycle yet?

my little girl was born on june 15/10 and was done so with an episiotomy procedure. She's currently 4 months old now and was breastfed up to the 3rd month and is now on formula.

Anywho I was just wondering when does the menstrual cycle usually resumes itself? After she was born I bled for 2 1/2 weeks and since then nothing yet. No cramping or any symptoms.

  • The hormones that control your cycle are "suppressed" while you're breastfeeding regularly (ie: every 4 hours or less.) Think of it as a built-in birth control device - your body cannot sustain another pregnancy during this time, especially if your energy/nutrients are being "diverted" to feed your infant. :) It's perfectly normal.

Now that you're no longer breast feeding, it can take a few months for your cycle to normalize again. If you're worried or overly stressed, it can sometimes take a little longer.

However, if you feel like something's wrong and/or are concerned, bring it up at your next doc visit (either for you or for the baby.)

  • It all depends on your personal hormones. There is no set time.

This is a question for your gyno, as they know you best.

  • consult your doctor.
