Do you ever feel like a minority as a Christan?

My entire family is Atheist except for me. Even distant relatives I have never met a Christian.

None of my close friends are Christian. They are generally Atheist or just don't think about relegion.

I live in Toronto and it is rare that I run into other Christians my age.

My family and friends openly mock Christianity and I just bite my lip because I don't want to fight or argue. I watch tv shows constantly mocking Christianity and I have to admit it does bother me a little. I think it would not bother me if I had some other friends who had the same beliefs as me but it does feel lonely to have everyone immediately around you think your religion is silly and mock it.

(When I say minority I am not comparing this minor inconvenience to the open discrimination black people, women, Muslims, homosexuals or any other group has had to endure)

  • You are a minority if you are a believer in Jesus. He called His followers "little flock" -

" Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom."

    Luke 12:32

    there are few being saved......

23 And someone said to Him, “Lord, are there just a few who are being saved?” And He said to them, 24 “Strive to enter through the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able. 25 Once the head of the house gets up and shuts the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock on the door, saying, ‘Lord, open up to us!’ then He will answer and say to you, ‘I do not know where you are from.’ 26 Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets’; 27 and He will say, ‘I tell you, I do not know where you are from; depart from Me, all you evildoers.’ 28 In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but yourselves being thrown out. 29 And they will come from east and west and from north and south, and will recline at the table in the kingdom of God. 30 And behold, some are last who will be first and some are first who will be last.”

    Luke 13:23-30

you need to connect with young people who are seeking the Kingdom of God.......

  • No longer all believers use "faith" as an excuse to kill, and so on. It is too dangerous that some messed up individuals supply Christianity a nasty title, on the grounds that they don't know or don't have an understanding of what Jesus taught. On the other hand, more humanitarian organizations, hospitals, and so on., had been created by means of proper Christians than you could rely. As for me, I was once raised Ahteist, and grew to be a Christian at 18. I detest the label "faith" for the following reason: faith is man's means of making an attempt to arrive to God--God made in man's picture, so that you could communicate. As a substitute, Jesus is God's way of achieving to man! I logically think in God, due to the fact that this large, elaborate universe, with wise beings just might no longer have come into existance with out an clever fashion designer! I just shouldn't have ample religion to consider in evolution!

  • Hello David. You have a special name. And also Jesus is surely without doubt calling you closer to him. Jesus says in the bible " if they persecute me , they will persecute you, if the world hates you , Remember it has hated me first". This is what you are Going through. A persecution of conscience. Now these friends and family possibly Aren't intentionally making you feel alone, or mocking you to actually hurt u. But since they themselves are not close with Jesus then they are more open to attacking Jesus likely without really knowing why they mock him. It's because they don't know him and they are in a certain type of sin that blinds their eyes to who Jesus really is and what this world is really about. The television hurts my heart many times by how they speak of our Lord. I'm a 26 yo male in Ny. And I am Catholic. And yes. I feel alone. I don't have many Christian friends. My family is Christian however. But I feel like my family doesn't like me. So I do feel alone. I saw ur post and I just had to respond to you because I am with you out here in the world. I am Suffering with you. No matter how alone we feel. Jesus will NEVER leave us. As long as we don't leave him. He is our friend. The best of friendships one could have. And he wants us to have and live in HIS kingdom. Where everyone is family. And everyone is Friends. And not one feels alone. If tv hurts your heart. Then your heart is ripe to love Christ. :) also Remeber this. From my Research I have come to find. Out of all the "gods" man has worshipped in human history( Buddha , Apollo , Muhammad , etc) there is only one who says if you do not follow and worship him , then you are subject to eternal hell and a damned afterlife. And that is Jesus. All the other " gods " not only are false gods , but they never claim this. So ask your friends. Which of these "gods" would be the wisest choice to follow. take care. And may God bless you always !

  • Agree with Bob - How can I feel like a minority with God on my side?

    The Bible tells Christians that they;

    - will be rejected by man (1 Peter 1-4)

    - will be despised for good (1 Tim 3:1-3)

    - will suffer reproach (1 Tim 4:10)

    - will have to endure hardship (2 Tim :2:3)

    - will suffer persecution (2 Tim 3:12)

    - will be as the aroma of death to unbelievers (2 Cor 2:15-16)

    - will be misunderstood by the world (1 Jn 3:1)

    - will be hated by the world (1 Jn 3:13)

    - will not be heard by those who don't know God (1 Jn 4:6)

    - will have to contend with the wicked (Pr 28:4)

    - will be hated (Pr 29:10)

    - will be an abomination to unbelievers (Pr 29:27)

    - will suffer many afflictions (Ps 34:19)

In Acts 26:11, Paul describes his own rage against Christians (prior to his conversion).

    1 John 5:19

We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.

    1 Peter 4:12

    Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you;

  • I think Christianity have endured quite a lot through times. And it does not get better. My guess is that there will come laws against telling your own kids about Jesus, because that is indoctrination. And I do not think I am painting the devil on the wall here.

Try find yourself a Christian fellowship even it is not exact your age. It is real valuable to have someone to talk about "the real stuff" with.

We are a minority, and are ment to be too. Jesus say clearly that it is few that finds the Way.

    God Bless

    MIMI

  • Yes, especially if you live a Godly life, and actually start doing some of the things the Bible encourages.

  • Lately yes. Most of my friends are actually of the Muslim faith, great people! Don't believe everything you see on the media, these guys know how much i worship Christ and how much faith i have in the bible yet they still treat me like family. Many Muslims will mock Christianity because they simply don't understand it, as will many atheists.

Lately i have been seeing a lot of abuse thrown towards Christianity, i have some family that actually call me crazy because of what i believe to be true. I am from Australia so i can't help you but remember this, Christ told us this would happen! He told us the world will hate us for what we believe. He told us we would be abused and ridiculed for their beliefs. I will be bold, and most people wont like this but the truth is Christianity is getting attacked in every form of life. You will see at least one Jesus joke in each comedy movie these days. They will mock the church, mock Christ and the believers of Christ. In Australia it does happen, i have not had it happen to me in person though and don't take this the wrong way but i believe i don't get picked on because of my middle eastern background and appearance. I openly accept Christ in front of anyone and will never be shy of it, i will never deny Christ. Not for this entire world! Peace to you my friend and may god bless you. Keep your faith strong, seek and you will find i am sure there are many Christians were you live, you just need to find them! Good luck

  • You have your own beilefs, they have theres. It doesnt seem to get in the way of your relationships with your friends and family, so that is wonderful.

If your beliefs are worth having, it shouldnt matter what they say.

I'm an Atheist myself (not more of us!), but I have a friends who is a Christian, I dont think any less of him, and it's not even an issue in either of our minds when we are together.

  • yes i do

  • I'm Catholic and a lot of my friends are either Catholics or Christians.

So no I never felt like a minority as a Christian.

Also it doesn't bother me if my friend isn't Catholic.
