We have hard wood floors in my house and im afraid they might get all scrathced up. we have carpet in our house and thats good but i have already shown my parents how responsible i am. ( we have HAD to cats ) My mom would get us a cat it's just she isn't a stay at home mom and my dad isn't either. I want to know what to do and how to get a dog or where to put a dog when were gone for school. My mom says it's crule for a dog to hold it's blatter all day. Help me?

  • I'm going through the same thing. many people leave their dogs at home during the day. take them out to the bathroom before you leave. if you get it as a puppy you can train it to go outside and inside on a potty pad. if you have a fenced in yard you can get a doggy door so it6 can do it business as it pleases.

    good luck!!!!! :)

  • Mom's right, it is rather cruel to have a puppy hold it's bladder all day - it also physically CAN'T. An adult dog would do better in this situation BUT it still isn't the best idea for it to be crated for that long (all dogs need to be crated until you KNOW it won't eat things, chew up the house, mess the house, etc.)

You COULD hire someone to let the dog out in the middle of the day. A more expensive option is to leave the dog in a "doggy day care center" while everyone is gone.

  • You'll have to think about if you will really play with your dog all the time, if you go on the computer watch TV the dog will stop liking you so you can't do that often (maybe 10 minutes a day in total) Obviously you would satright away think that you will play with it but after a few days you will hardly play with it at all and your parents will have to take care of it for you and be annoying and say "I knew this would happen" and "You take it this time i hate the dog!" so really think about it for a few days. Can you live without your computer/TV?

  • It doesn't sound like you guys have the time for a dog. No one is home, who will be spending time w/ the dog all day long?

  • Do you have, or can you put up, a fence around your back yard? Can you put in a pet door? That would give him access to "bathroom priveleges" while everyone was away from home.
