Who's to Judge?, a poem to critique?
The blind and the dumb
breathe the same air
as the pompous
and self-aware,
perceptions
are different,
standards
compete, but
their clocks
wind down
the same
way.
When the shade's
fully drawn
and the light's
gone away,
who's to say
which heart made
the earth
better sway?

As Depeche Mode once put it...."Help me understand....."
People are People
(sigh)
The One who judges....
well..
Thank Goodness for forgiveness
tearing bits
of someone else's flesh
to build my own
only ends up
with rot
Yet I fall, I fail
but I try to lift others
as I tumble
on this
dill versed planet
and I like all kinds of pickles
um....ok!
Did someone request verse? Is that the only qualification for poetry? Perhaps we should be posting more limericks. A definition of poetry: "writing that formulates a concentrated imaginative awareness of experience in language chosen and arranged to create a specific emotional response through meaning, sound, and rhythm" A definition of verse: "(1): metrical language (2): metrical writing distinguished from poetry especially by its lower level of intensity" You know I'm not a 'gusher', Ma. This is not the best poem I've ever seen, but it presents imagery and makes a point in a concise and poetic manner. Someone may be taking the subject matter personally, in a sociopathic sort of way. There seems to be an outbreak of thumb trolls today. Well, not to disappoint, here's some verse: "It puts the lotion on its skin Or else it gets the hose again." --from 'Silence of the Lambs' .
granted that I don't have the same faith as you, I can judge this to be a well written poem, but I wasn't crazy about the closure ... the earth swaying? Now to bring up my dark skeptic side ... does the earth care about the folly and prestige of mankind? Probably not, if anything the earth must worry about the damage done by the parasitic disease of mankind, that poisons the planet and consumes the forests.
Oh, how true! I really like this. You've expressed so well the tendency for us all to think of some as "lesser people". An arrogance that makes some puff their chests out and think they're better. Its an easy thing to slip into. Thank you for sharing this. Its a good reminder of how not to judge. God bless.
Very nice words. Encouraging. We all have things we want to say, I suppose. So many different ways of saying them. Acceptance is good.
Bravo! This has a great message and has flow. You surely can 'bang' out a good write!
I try not to judge a book by it's cover--whomever they are. <or is that whoever they are?>
[ yes, Mek, good answer!]
Wonderfully said Ma. There is something to touch everyone and for each it is something unique from the next.
The colors of the night show no favorites. Good write.
We are all held equally. Who of us is to pass judgement on another? We all end in death at some point. With that said, I agree with those that say this poem flows nicely. Thanks for sharing.
I don't agree "their clocks wind down the same way."
Some tend to pop their springs before their time
(often through the process of judging).
