Why does A/C Control blink on my 91 Silverado?

When I turn on me Air Conditioning the indicator just blinks. This is with a full charge

  • StPaulGuy makes a good point that I have seen happen a number of times, and RobertM has tourettes syndrome from the looks of it, and he misses the mark a few times, especially with the oil charge statement.

Try jumpering the low pressure switch on the accumulator temporarily to see if things return to normal. If not, then get a gauge set on the vehicle, and then jumper the hi pressure cutout switch, minding the pressure readings so you don't trigger the safety pop-off valve, and lose your charge. See if jumpering the hi pressure switch turns things back to normal as described. If still having issues, and all the fuses are good, then it is time to dissect the climate control head.

The contacts in the climate control head can corrode. Sometimes, you can remove and open up the case and clean the contacts inside the unit with WD-40 on a q-tip, but only if you know what you are doing. The climate control head is no longer stocked anywhere, that is why I am mentioning this. Perhaps ebay may have a used one.

  • SUSIE somethiing is WRONG here! Perhpas yoru FULL Charge was NOT done right! you must have a mixture of both LIQUID and GAS freon in there for it to work right, and many so-called PROS< do not do this charge the RIGHT WAY! You also need frsh PAG OIL addedd to the compressors for longevity! Call ANY GM depership and ask WHY your lilght is binking! Then go to ANOTHER shop to have your FLUID/GAS balance DOUBLE CHECKED! You can be OVERCHARGED or UNDERCHARGED! you MIGHT even have a faulty HIGH or LOW pressure switch! You are NOT done yet!

  • GM has a service bulletin on this that deals with corrosion in the connectors to the control head. Have that checked out before you start messing with the refrigerant charge

  • do you get any squeals??

could be as obvious as loose built

or could be as complicated as bad AC Clutch that squeal and eventually loose the gap and friction to work properly
