Is baldness a disease?

Ok, I'm not balding, nor am I bald. I was just curious whether it was a disease or not due to some dubious lyrics.

While listening to the radio, a song's lyrics were something to the effect of "I'm gonna cure diseases like baldness and cancer." Perhaps those words were chosen as to stay in tempo with the song? Who knows. The lyrics were kind of strange anyways, and it was a country themed song.

Update:

Yes, this is a silly question. And no, I don't believe everything I hear in songs.

  • baldness is not a disease, it mostly occurs in men because they have x and y chromozones and when part of the x isn't working like your hair gene, then there isn't another to cover it up because there's a y, but women aren't usually bald because they have x x chromozones therefore they have an extra incase one of the x's isn't "working".....basicly

  • So..

There are many factors that can attribute to hair recession or massive hair fall and you need to find out which one exactly is responsible for the problem you are having now. Of course male pattern baldness is still the most common cause, but, for instance, if you are a woman things are deinitely different! This is the reason why you will need to really dig down and see the source of your problem.

Other causes of hair loss may include (both in men and women): severe mental or emotional stress, excessive use of coloring or bleaching agents, traction alopecia or excessive strain on the scalp due to braiding or corn rowing, hormonal changes, alopecia areata or hair loss due to autoimmune diseases, and many more. Each of these conditions will require a different approach in order to achieve success regardless of whether you're going to be using conventional or natural methods.

In my opinion it's much better to use natural methods as opposed to conventional ones, they're cheaper, have less to no side effects, and often more effective.

A good way of regaining your full head of healthy natural hair is well described on this guide: http://hairagain.toptips.org/

    Hope it helps.

  • This is silly question. Of course baldness is NOT a disease. But it does have a genetic component passed on from generation to generation. As to saying you heard this in a song, my goodness, do you believe everything you hear? Especially in song lyrics???

    You have much to learn.

  • baldness is'nt a disease but maybe the lyrics were saying that if i can cure cancer then people won't go bald from chemotherapy...just a thought but no baldness isn't a disease

  • No, baldness is not a disease, even in the loose sense of the word. It is a developmental genetic predisposition, due to the onset of pubertal testosterone and your heredity.

  • NO, baldness is NOT a disease. However, it may be caused by a disease.

    Chow!!

  • Sometimes it is. Sometimes it's genetic. Bald is beautiful.

  • i don't think baldness is a disease

  • No, but it can be the symptom of a disease.

  • No-it's called tread wear.
