Does drinking from a straw prevent cavaties?

I know a person who always drinks from a straw, whether it'd be water or soda pop, or juice. Just as a habit and prefers it that way. Never has had a cavity in her life, and she drinks a lot of soda pop. And, I know this for a fact she's never had a cavity. But me on the other hand and plenty of other people I know have had a lot of cavaties from the down fall of drinking soda pop. So, is it true? I mean if you think about it when you drink from a straw, and it's in your mouth far enough, it doesn't hit your teeth, just goes down your throat.

  • yes, if you drink alot of soda or pop; better to drink from a straw so as to not constantly bathe the teeth in sugar.

  • attempt brushing thrice an afternoon. Or it must be that your teeth has worn down and you're extra vendors to cavities. attempt to no longer drink as lots soda now which you have such various cavities. yet to respond to your question i think of in case you drink soda with a straw it doesnt get throughout your teeth as detrimental to easily eating it rapidly out of the can or cup.

  • I know that using a straw when drinking helps you teeth a little with less staining....I drink lots of coffee (iced) through a straw.....and my teeth are still quite white compared to most people who drink as much coffee as me.

  • no drinking from a straw doesnt prevent cavaties

  • i wouldnt go so far as to say it prevents them, but my dentist did suggest to me to use a straw with sodas. eh helps keep sugar off of teeth, common sense to me.

  • . NO. Cavities are caused by rotting food in your teeth.
