Recommend Violin Concertos?
Can anyone recommend some good Violin Concertos to perform? I want something preferably somewhat difficult, yet good to listen to like Havanaise by Saint-Saëns.
P.S. I was thinking of something like Nessun Dorma as performed by Vanessa-Mae, but can't find ANYTHING remotely similar to what she played as for a sheet music.
Update:Violin Concerto in E minor, Mendelssohn-
A friend of mine performed it a year ago, and would rather not do it 'again' with the orchestra... =P
Violin Concerto in G minor, Bruch-
A friend of mine performed this two years ago... heh -_-
Thanks for the suggestions though!

You mentioned the Havanaise by Saint-Saëns , don't you know his wonderful work "Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso", and also
"Violin Concerto No. 3 in B minor" , these are my best romatic violin favorates at all.
There are also :.
-Beethoven : Violin Concerto in D
-Romance for Violin & Orchestra 2, op.50
-Brahms : Violin concerto in D.
-Henryk Wieniawsky : The violin concertos
-Sibelius : Violin Concerto in D minor
-Schumann : Violin Concerto in D minor
Can you go with Paganini ?
You have so many to choose from.
Vivaldi Four Seasons (Summer is always impressive if you can play it FAST!)
Tchaikovsky
Sibelius
Shostakovich
Some other pieces that are not strictly concertos but are for solo violin and orchestra are
Zigeunerweisen by Pablo de Sarasate
Lark Ascending by Vaughn-Williams
If you are really daring, go for the Carmen Fantasie, one of the hardest ever pieces for violin, and VERY IMPRESSIVE! (you'll easily out do your friend playing Bruch and Mendelssohn if you pull it off)

Brahms and Tchaikovsky. I love Wieniawski's 2nd Violin concerto, too.
i have been playing violin for 9 years now, so i am somehow into the subject, eventhough i have never compeeted. i would choose a piece, that would not neccesarily have to be extremely difficult, but very good sounding. some latino song or something from a movie. my guess is tico-tico, that is cool and it is a little hard as well. the question if duet or solo depends on the cool song you choose!
- SIBELIUS!!!!
- Tchaikovsky in D major
- Lalo (symphony espagnole)
- Shostakovitch
- Carmen Fantasy
- Brahms concerto no. 1
- Beethoven
- maybe Dvorak
- Conus Violin Concrto
- Paganini concerto
- maybe korngold
Reger
Brahms double concerto
Barber
Elgar
Sibelius
Shostakovich
Prokofiev
Stravinsky
All these composers wrote terrific violin concerto(i) so those would be my suggestions.
The 'stormier' movements of Vivaldi's Four Seasons?
my four favorite violin concertos:
mendelssohn
tcaikovsky
brahms
beethoven
many others are excellent but these are the ones i keep coming back to.
