  • Your AMD K6 is basically Pentium-class CPU, and I mean Pentium (1), not II, III, or IV. Just the ORIGINAL Pentium, albeit a very fast one, but it maxes out at less than 500 MHz, a fraction of today's 3-4 GHz machines.

If you are happy with the applications you got now, then there's no real purpose to upgrade to WinXP. As you said "it runs great" so I guess you don't really have any complaints.

I'd say save the money for your next PC instead. Only upgrade if you have to run a certain program that only runs on WinXP.

  • Here the requirements for Windows XP

    Minimum

    Processor : 233 MHz

Memory : 64 MB RAM (may limit performance and some features)

Video adapter and monitor : Super VGA (800 x 600 dpi)

Hard drive disk free space : 1.5 GB

    Drives : CD-ROM or DVD-ROM

    Devices : Keyboard and mouse

Others : Sound card, speakers, and headphones

    Recommended

Processor : 300 MHz or higher

Memory : 128 MB RAM or higher

Video adapter and monitor : Super VGA (800 x 600 dpi) or higher resolution

Hard drive disk free space : 1.5 GB or higher

    Drives : CD-ROM or higher

    Devices : Keyboard and mouse

Others: Sound card, speakers, and headphones

If look at the processor and your memory, you PC is can use for Windows XP, don't know with other device.

You should use Windows XP since it more reliable than Windows 98 and 98 not supported by Microsoft anymore.

    Sory for my bad english

  • on a personal note you have the same first name and first intial of my last name..weird.

but win98-XP would be a great idea, security for one, compatibilty for two, and get with the times for three.

the 1 gig ram will definately run XP just as fast if not faster than your 98 OS..as for amd-k6 3d is pretty outdated. if your motherboard would support an intel duo core then id go with that processor

  • from 98 to XP yes but compare system requirements to your system before you do.

  • Seeing how MS is no longer supporting Win98, yeah, you might want to look into getting XP.

  • If you want XP then go for it. I seen WinXP run on machines with alot lower specs then what you have.

  • God yes!!!!You won't belive how much more stable XP is compared to 98.
