asda parking fines?

asda has decided to fine people that use disabled or mum and baby spaces. i do think it is o.k to reserve spaces for them, but i think asda has gone on an authoritarian trip. who is going to enforce the fine, what if the shopper says , p***s 0ff, what do asda then.

Update:

wow, what a response, i had no idea it was so volatile. thanks 4 all ur answers. i think the spaces are good and should be protected.

  • You should bear in mind that any fines ASDA collect from this will go to charity.

They are not trying to make money for themselves out of this (which would have put me against this idea), only to make shopping easier for the disabled and parents with young children. So count me in favour!

  • I think people in wheelchairs that are classed as disabled should no way be allowed reserved spaces, they're sitting down! They are not using any energy! Many people claim they don't want to be treated diffirently yet they take up nice things like this?

Also parents and children deffinitly need the wider spaces but why near the door, if there child isn't able to walk they would be in a buggy that is not hard to push, they walk up and down high streets so why can't they walk over a car park.

I think if they are very unable to walk across a car park then they should have a carer to do there shopping.

I do have respect but there are some very ignorant people out there that take the p!

If they gave me a fine i would not pay it so they would have to take me to court!

  • I agree with asda. If you are ignorant enough to get the fine, then you deserve it.

They will employ a firm to hand out fines. If someone kept parking and not paying i suppose that aswell as ending up in court you could be banned from shop.

However some with disabled badges also break law, when a designated driver uses it without actuallyhaving the 'owner' in the car.

Cant understand why any able bodied person would use the disabled / parents spaces.

  • hi

i was listening to the radio a few weeks ago and it said it was either asda or tesco had fined a pregnant woman for parking in a mum and child space, radio presenter was arguing with manager of the shop that because the lady was pregnant she was okay to park in that space, because in effect she had a child it was just in her tum, in the end the manager let her off with the £30 ish fine, they have people now patroling car parks looking for offenders so be warned.

  • One of the problems with disabled badges is that an astonishing TEN MILLION Brits have one - that's a whopping 1 in 6 - clearly lots of people are playing the system. If such a large proportion of the population is "disabled" then we clearly have problems, like who will do all the work? What will happen if ALL of them want to park at the same time? There aren't 10 mllion disabled spaces nationally!

The badges need to be harder to get.

I would get rid of parent and child spaces. It doesn't bother me, we are fit enough to have children, and so fit enough to push the pram a little farther from the shop doors!

Remember some stores in busier parts of town already charge people to use the car park, and only reimburse them if they spend a £5 minimum in the store.

  • it really is stressful after I take my neice to asda with my brother he cant park contained in the be sure and newborn areas 0.5 of the time cos of lazy **** human beings he imagine of themselves truly of others. i for my section imagine convinced wonderful them. also i went very last week and there became an previous couple with the girls suffering to stroll the lenght of the automobile park because there became no diasbled areas 0.5 the vehicles devoid of badges contained in the window or maybe some human beings sat contained in the vehicles waiting for others even as they could human beings needed the areas. which i idea became ignorant and disrespectful. sorry this became lengthy yet those are in simple terms my innovations.

  • Yah Asda!! I'm a mum to a 6 month old and can I point out to some people its not the fact that we don't want to push our prams that little further its the space between cars so we can get the children out...!! I'm sure no one wants there car banged with the door esp if you've only got a 3 door car!!!

Also the extra space is handy for us nappy brained mums to get in and out of spaces!!!!

What also annoys me is the drivers who are waiting in the cars in either mum and baby or disabled waiting for someone to come out Sit in another space and move out of it when you see whom ever coming that way you free up the space for others!!

  • Some people feel there are way too many spaces allotted for handicapped parking, while others feel just the opposite. Here are some reasons why handicapped parking spaces are needed:

A person's physical condition makes walking long distances nearly impossible.

It would be very dangerous for a wheelchair user to traverse a parking lot, being at a height not visible to cars backing out of spaces.

A ramped or lift-equipped vehicle needs extra side space for ramp deployment.

  • I take it they've not read "how to p*** off your customers in one easy lesson". I DON'T park in disabled bays, but come on - get a life ASDA!

Say you got a £60 fine for parking in a D.B....would you EVER shop there again? No - you'd be off to Tesco / Sainsbury's etc.

What they REALLY need is special bays for 'sh1tty cars' and their drivers...I'm fed up of having my doors dented by scum in their 1992 Escort / Astra that's worth about £30.

  • Thats why I shop at Tesco.

    God, I HATE Asda.
