You can't get into DOS mode. If you press <F8> when you first see you windows screen you can enter Windows Safe Mode with a Command prompt. This is not DOS mode, it doesn't exist on NT based systems. You can only enter the DOS or Command Shell.
DOS is incapable of reading NTFS the default files system for non DOS based OS's. It has higher security and more flexibility then FAT, FAT16 or FAT32.
All the commands listed in the article can be performed from the Command prompt.
Start --> Run --> type "cmd" and press enter
Assuming you're talking about Windows XP, here's how to get the computer to start at the command line (though why the instructions want you to go that extreme, I don't know:
1.Log out and reboot your machine.
2.When the machine starts the reboot sequence, press the F8 key repeatedly.
3.Select Command Line Mode from the resulting menu.
4.The machine will continue booting. You may have to log in. Eventually you'll get a black screen with white lettering. that's "MS-DOS mode".
5.When you're finished, enter "exit" (without the quotes) as the command and reboot back into normal mode.
Hope that helps.
I think you have to press one of those F keys to get it to show you the boot menu when it's booting up, perhaps F8. Then select the mode for booting.
If it shows boot modes such as Safe Mode but no MS-DOS mode then maybe the version of Windows won't allow it, so just boot up regular way and you can get a command prompt, the next best thing, by using Start > Run, then typing CMD and clicking OK.
1. There is a safe DOS mode -- that can be started by going to boot menu... press F8 while booting up. You will find various options there. Highlight the Safe DOS mode and press <enter>.
2. There is a command mode.... Start>Run> type cmd and press <enter>.
This is the DOS window.
You dont have a bootable floppy or cd in the drive do you? Its been a while since I have played with 98 but try typing WIN and hitting enter at the dos prompt.
you could try an download DosBox 0.72
