why do zoos exist?

why not let animals be on their own in the forest or jungle.

thats how nature is meant to be. creatures like elephants, bears, tigers, gorillas, etc etc etc are never meant to come into human contact.

they are supposed to be completely left alone in the wild.

  • Zoos may be the ONLY chance left for many species of animals to survive. Animals in their natural habitat are being killed off at an alarming rate..are you not aware of this? Habitat is being destroyed, invasive species are being introduced, and poachers are killing animals. Zoo have endangered species breeding programs where they replace animals into the wild. If not for zoos, the California Condor would be extinct right now. The LA Zoo and the San Diego Zoo brought it back from the brink of extinction. Also, nowadays...no animals are taken from the wild to be placed in zoos..they did away with this MANY years ago..all zoo animals were born there are come from another zoo where they were born. Zoos are also VERY important in educating the public about the plight of many endangered and declining species. If not for zoos most people would never be able to see exotic animals from around the world..unless they were world travelers (which most people are not). If someone showed you a photo of an endangered animal in a magizine..would you really care about saving it? But if you went to a zoo and saw one up close and personal and saw it interacting with it's own kind....wouldn't you care more? Sure, in a perfect world it would be nice to have every wild animal living in it's natural environment without the risk or being killed, starving to death, or not having shelter...but this world is FAR from perfect.

  • Zoos exist for a couple of reasons in addition to providing city dwellers a place to spend an afternoon seeing exotic animals. One of their primary purposes is education. Many classes go on field trips to zoos, and a zoo keeper will generally give a tour and teach the students about the animals there. Another popular teaching aid are shows which showcase a particular species where the keepers can teach the public a little more about a particular type of animal. Some zoos have little classrooms and summer "camps" where children can go to learn more about the wild.

The other purpose of zoos is research. Many research projects are coordinated and even funded by zoos. In addition, many endangered species have special breeding programs coordinated through the zoo network in order to make sure that the gene pool remains as diverse as possible.

Unfortunately, most people don't appreciate the full range of what a zoo actually does. Some believe that they are simply there to house animals in dirty, dingy cages and parade them in front of the public to make a couple of dollars. They don't get to see everything that goes on behind the scenes at the zoo.

  • in case you hate zoos plenty, why did you % to artwork in one. perhaps you probably did not artwork in a good zoo. My son worked in 3 different zoos as an elephant handler and enjoyed his artwork. he married a veterinarian too. I definitely have been to a great style of zoos and function long previous in the back of the curtain too and by no capacity say any abuse of the animals in any respect. If we did not have any zoos interior the international, many, a lot of human beings might by no capacity discover out approximately wild animals in any respect. additionally many zoos are to blame for retaining a species from going extinct. The Audubon zoo in New Orleans is the only place the place you are able to fairly see a white alligator. I purely think of you have not been to an marvelous zoo. attempt to flow to the San Diego zoo or wild existence park and notice what an marvelous zoo may be.

  • Habitat for these animals in the wild are diminishing world wide due to human expansion. As a result wild populations also diminish. Some zoos participate in the conservation of populations near the brink of extinction. Also I look at zoos as an educational tool that can inspire children to become future zoologists and preserve what part of the natural world we still have. Also some animals may be unfit to ever return to the wild. Some zoos profits are used to preserve wild populations that help them thrive in the wild. So at least to me the benefits outway the costs.

  • Because man has invaded there territory. And many animals would be gone from this earth. Tigers are a good example.

  • well alot of zoo's concentrate on conservation and help endangered animals by breeding and things! obviously some zoo's are bad and give them tiny enclosures and do not treat their animals very well but not all are bad! =)

  • I agree with you.

But, men wanted to see some exotic animals so they put them into cages, so theat they can get money.

people are bigger animals and monsters than any lion, gorilla or elephant on earth.

I think we should destroy zoos, set all animals free and make new homeland for them. _

  • its because people wants to display different kind of animals so that other people could see because sometimes people cant see animals from the outside world so they thought that they should have a lot of people see other animals too. and i agree that they are sometimes endangered and too keep men away, they had to capture them to keep them safe.

  • For entertainment, education, conservation and research basically.

  • To give zookeepers jobs.
