  • A preamplifier (preamp), or "control amp" is an electronic amplifier which prepares an electronic signal for further amplification or processing. The preamplifier circuitry may or may not be housed separately from the device for which a signal is being prepared.

In general, the function of a preamp is to amplify a low-level signal to line-level. A list of common low-level signal sources would include a pickup, microphone, turntable or other transducer. Equalization and tone control may also be applied.

so basically a built in signal processor that sort of refines the sound for other Amplifiers in basic terms

hope this helped at all :)

  • amplifiers have an enter impedance and output impedance. components of alerts like microphones have a intense impedance and extremely low sign out placed (milivolts). audio gadget (output tranducers) require extra skill (modern-day). a chain of amplifers turn a small sign right into a great sign. Integrating sound systems could properly be complicated and costly. For a house gadget you may desire to no longer could desire to purchase skill amps as maximum living house systems use receivers with geared up in amps and elementary equalization/source switching that'll cope with living house audio gadget conveniently. great venue systems can use mixers, eqs, snakes, compressors, limiters, delays, skill amps, highs, mids, lows, crossovers, and subs. A preamp is basically a point between the source and skill amp to furnish sufficient sign to the skill amp.
