Do tongue barbells double as nipple barbells?

I don't have a nipple piercing (at the moment lol), but when you buy a nipple barbell can you also choose from tongue studs, or are they generally too thick? Tongue studs seem to have more of a variety is all I'm thinking. Cheers :)

Update:

no i do not want saggy nipples hahaha!!

  • They are for me.. But it depends how large your nipples are.

Mine were done with 16mm long barbells, which is what most tongue bars tend to be. And they're longer to allow for swelling, but once I can change them, they'll probably be 14mm-ish?

They are normally the same gauge as tongue bars. But some piercers will prefer to do nipples at 12g.

As initial jewellery.. Just stick to normal, boring things. Noone will think a crusty nipple looks very pretty anyway, no matter what shiny balls you have on the ends :D

And you need to stay away from acrylic, and glued gems, as they can't be autoclaved. So.. that doesn't leave a huge amount of variety.

Once they've healed, you can always steal the balls off tongue bars and stick them another barbell. Noone sees the bar anyway.

And if they were done at 12g, you can always downsize to 14g, where theres more variety.

It sounds complicated.. But it's fine.

Just ask the piercer what size jewellery they used, and remember it for the future :)

  • By thick I'm guessing you are referring to gauge or mil. Most nipples are pierced at 14 gauge, some piercers will use 12 on meatier nipples. The standard size tongue bar is 14 gauge , or 1.6 mil wide, and 14 or 16 mil. Most nipples would only need a bar 10 or 12 mil long. If you go visit your local piercing or tattoo parlor they can probably give some advice. It isn't advisable to change the balls or the bar on healing nipple piercings as this can irritate/aggravate them and the balls or bar are probably not sterile, which could introduce infection. If in doubt go see a piercer, they can tell you more. Long over-hanging edges on nipple piercings can and will catch on things, and they will let the bar move around more, aggravating it by dragging scabs and lymph back throught the healing fistula.

    Hope i helped :P
