3ds Capture Card?

I'm looking for a good deal on a 3DS capture card, cheap but not so cheap that it'll fall apart first use. I have NO idea what the price range should be or even who to trust with it. Any ideas?

  • The 3DS has no video output without hardware modifications.

They're not cheap for that reason. Either you send them your 3DS and have it installed or buy one with the board installed already. You're looking at a minimum $200+ if you've already got the system you want to use.

  • The 3DS has no video-out port, so any 3DS capture card has to be spliced into the 3DS video wiring, by opening the console up, soldering it in, and cutting a hole in the case for the USB port.

Because of this, there is no mass-produced commercial version, the few people who create and sell them can choose their own pricing, and I think about $200 is the average, though for that price they'll install it in your 3DS if you send it to them. You'll never find a 'cheap' one.

  • There really isn't a good deal on them. Every 3DS Capture solution that I've seen costs more than the 3DS itself.

The big you tube and twitch streamers who make the big advertising money already is able to reasonably pay that price if it means more content for the channel, but for the rest of us who just want to dabble with screen capture tech, it really isn't worth the money.

I have a set up that allows me to record just about anything with HDMI that I throw at it: Wii U, PS3, PS4, Retron 5, NES Classic, AppleTV, and will add the Switch to that set up in March. But I never could talk myself into spending the money on a 3DS capture card.
