bmw 2001 e39 key problems ..?
so we had a little problem w/ the car last week and so this week we took out the battery and plugged it back in .. the remote key won't work, none of the buttons work, the only way to open the car is by putting car key on the door and manually open the door. My dad's telling me that they key charges w/ the ignition of the car, but now he's telling me that the battery from the key's dead and so was wondering, do we have to open up the key and replace a battery? how to open the key, as there's no screws on the key...
any websites i could go to?

If the key was recently working, you may just have to "re-associate" it with the car. Look in your owner's manual for the process. There is a specific sequence of operations to have the car recognize the key again. If you can't find it yourself, any good independant BMW shop (or even a dealer/stealer) should be able to do it for you.
The keys for a 2001 E39 are charged when they are used in the ignition, so you should always make it a habit to use your spare key for a few days every 6 months or so. When I bought my 2000 E39 M5, one of the keys hadn't been used in years and was dead. I opened it up and found that the battery is welded in and I tried ways of replacing it but without success.
In my case, I had to buy a new key from BMW and they are not cheap (around $90 if I recall correctly) because they are made for that individual car and there are only a few spares for each vehicle made.
Good luck.
it particularly is fantastically obtrusive you screwed up the main once you cracked it open. I see no different determination now different than to have the broking replace it. a shopper would not have the potential to reprogram the main. interior the backside line is a secure practices chip. If this chip isn't modern or no longer programmed top it won't perform. i might double verify on the value if I have been you. regularly a replace key's around $one hundred ten. i might question the broking and see what your thoughts are. Perhapds they are attempting to sell you some thing you do no longer want.
replace the battery the cover unclicks the bmw dealer will generally do it for the cost of the battery
