I work for an insurance company in the UK,
The only way to reduce the premium is to get the car registered in one of your parents name, then get then to insure it and add you as a named driver - this has pro's and con's:
Pro's - you get cheaper insurance than your friends who have the insurance in there name.
Con's - you dont earn your own No Claims Bonus (NCB) which means when you eventually get your own insurance your premium will be much higher than those the same age who have had insurance in their name.
Either way as a young driver you will unfortunately attract high premiums im 25yro and i pay £800 for a Y-Reg Audi TT!!!
Good luck.
I look at this way..the older the car..the more you save on car insurance. Ugly and dingy car colors is also a key of saving on car insurance; apparently bright colors makes the car insurance rates go up. Everyone tells me to go with black or white on car color to save and I tell them that it really doesn't matter because local law enforcement is really pulling the black and white cars over more and giving them tickets; which makes your insurance rates go up. I was curious about that and I asked a local officer and he told me that its because they are selling their older model cars and most of the time they are bought by people that want to use the cars for illegal purposes. So, my friend was not right about the black and white; But I will tell you this that if people pay more attention to the road than talking on their cell phones..they won't get tickets and their insurance rates won't go up. I myself compare insurance companies and I have a very, very clean driving record(not to be bragging). For example I used site I listed below to compare a bunch of quotes.
I don't understand why do the insurance companies want to give me a higher rate than another insurance company..they are competitive! I will always stick with my old cars that are under the year 2000 because it always gives me a low car insurance rate and I have never went with a new model car. In the 90's is my preference on car years and my clunkers always got me to point a to point b and I am pleased with my insurance rates but sometimes I do think about getting more quotes to get it even lower..I just have to sit down and do it. I do have another suggestion..people need to put multiple cars on their insurance..this also improves the insurance rates. I personally have three vehicles on one insurance company and two vehicles on another insurance company. Apparently, by-law I can't have more than three vehicles on one insurance company..which is very inconvenient! I have no choice in the matter; but I am going to shop around some more.
I'm 20 years old and have to pay 400.00 a month for insurance because I'm a first time driver.
The only way to lower it is to go under your parents insurance.
Shop around for a competitive quote. But your age will always dictate the price. This is almost unavoidable these days. If your parents have car insurance cover, it may be cheaper for you to come under the purview of that cover. Try this route.
Good luck.
I would recommend one to try this website where onel can get rates from the best companies: http://insureforeverybody.info/index.html?src=1YAW...
