How do I convert VHS tapes, to my computer.?

I have a tape (well a few actually from like 2001-2006) and I really want them on my computer considering I don't have my VHS player anymore, and I may want to put them on Youtube.

It's a Panasonic VHSC Palmcorder. I got a "Dazzle DVD Recorder" to help this situation (because some guy at radio shack told me thats what i should get) but it turns out its **** and it doesn't help me. (I have a Windows Vista).

So what can I buy, or what can I do to get my VHS tapes onto my computer?

(The video camera I have, doesn't accept those red, yellow, and white wires plugged into it, I tried that. The only wire I have for it besides the charger is the plane black wire that plugs into the back of the palmcorder, and into my computer.)

PS- The video camera is vhs because when I got it (2002, when i graduated elementary school) there were very few USB camcorders, and there were only VHS ones available to me.

  • To do it properly, it's very complicated, unfortunately.

I've spent the last 7 years or so obsessing over this very question. Needless to say, my results are pretty good these days. :-) One key component was to write my own temporal video denoiser; it's called y4mdenoise and is part of the mjpegtools project on SourceForge.

I couldn't begin to discuss the subject in any reasonable amount of time. You're getting yourself into the semi-archaeological field of "video restoration".
