do athiests celebrate easter?

it is certainly pagan. and i wonder, why do 'professed christians' celebrate easter?

  • Yep! It sure is when we are in Autumn here in Down Under land of wonder and the surf is always up at Bells Beach for the world surfing contests.

The harvests have been completed and the preparation of sowing the seed into fertile soil has begun and await the winter rains and the warming of spring to bring forth a good harvest.

Once upon a time the Roman Catholic Church decided they needed a good time to celebrate Jesus Crucifixion and Resurrection. So they pinched that time of the solstice being "April" to enable them to connect with the pagans, as the rest of the worlds population was to be called. Even-though most of those homo sapian in these populated countries would not be discovered for another 1000 years.

  • Well "professed Christians" celebrate Easter because it is supposed to be the time when Jesus rose from the grave. Hence why there is also "Good Friday" 3 days before Easter. (Jesus was crucified 3 days before he rose - though I am not sure what is so good about being nailed to a piece of wood)

All the chocolate and bunnies and such was added later by big greedy corporations to suck you of your money! :-P

As for Atheists. I would imagine some do celebrate, though only the more "commercial" aspect of it. Though I would assume some hardcore Atheists would not as they don't believe in God and thus would not celebrate the day he rose from the dead. I guess it would all depend on the individual.

  • Another fable from the bible, the worlds best selling novel. There's nothing to celebrate. Jesus didn't die on the cross, he ended up in India. Read some of his later teachings, they're buddist teachins. His tomb is in India. The bible novel was highly edited by the church and some of the writings that survived destruction told of his wife going her way with Sarah, Jesus's daughter and Jesus went to India. So easter is mother goose. The old pagans were considered sinful as they worshiped Pan. The Christians made their devil look like Pan because they thought Pan was the devil. I could go on about Noah's ark but...

  • Pagans sensed the period of the year we now in Christian terms call Easter as a time of change - perhaps we should heed their insight and reflect on the opportunity to renew both personally and culturally ? - Early Christian thought certainly took advange of the opportunity to capture such a sense of renewal I suspect ?

  • of course athiests don't celebrate it. and it is NOT a pagen holiday. Easter is about Jesus being crusified on Good Friday. He died on the cross. three days later on easter Sunday, he rose from the dead. if athiests don't believe in God then why would they celebrate Easter? it doesn't make any sence.

  • I don't celebrate it. Christians living today don't realize the early church simply copied a pagan tradition in order to try to convert people.

  • As a family fun candy and eggs thing, maybe.

Easter is really a Pagan holiday of fertility, eggs, bunny rabbits, and then the crisitians come around and turn the peaceful, loving celebration into something about Christ.

I buy my kids candy, and we dye eggs, and wait to see if Jesus sees his shadow when he comes out of the cave...

  • i would not have thought so i the traditional sense but then who does celebrate easter in the traditional sense? it is all just a hideous ploy by chocolate companies to sell more chocs! i grew up in catholic family & all easter was ever about was chocolate...even though we could not eat the eggs till after mass on sunday...now i consider myself agnostic & can't be bothered with easter, not b'cos of religion but b'cos it is just heavy marketing, like christmas, halloween & every other traditional time of year!

  • The be conscious easter replaced into taken from..... shows it somewhat is a pagan party of spring. the trip that us christians celebrate is dictated with the aid of the date of Passover. ( Christ entered Jerusalem in simple terms in simple terms before that trip. Pilate replaced into compelled to hurry issues by using trip coming up. A lamb could have been sacrificed( for atonement of sins) as component to the trip. it somewhat is one reason we call Christ the "Lamb of God". What we call Easter Sunday commemorates Christ's resurrection for us. possibly we would desire to continuously call it Resurrection Day. i like to beautify with butterflies , lambs and eggs , as a substitute of chicks, bunnies and eggs.

  • I know some that do. They celebrate most holidays, but not for the Christian 'connotation'. Just for the festivities and the spirit of friendship, food and well...presents.
