IOS 6.1 IMessage sends texts as emails?

Yesterday, I updated my iPhone to iOS 6.1 and today, I noticed that it was sending my iMessages from my email address. I tried to change the "Send/Recieve" settings, but it only allows me to use my email. I've checked everywhere in settings, and it i couldn't find anything. Is this permanent with iOS 61. Or can I change it?

    I'm having a similar problem. I can only send/receive imessage via my mobile number and not my email. Trying to send a message to an email simply reverts to MMS via the carrier. They clearly broke something AGAIN. Look for a 6.1.1 update to address this issue.

    I believe you always use your email address because that's your apple ID that you use to send the messages in the first place
