Do women ever umpire men's pro tennis matches?

I don't ever recall this happening...

  • They do occasionally, although I dont think I have ever seen one in a Roddick match. I would love to see him in a big match with one as I wonder just how disrespectful and obnoxious he would be. Somehow I dont think his sponsors would allow this.

  • Sandra de Jenkin (France) is probably one of the best umpires hands down. She is extremely fair and has razor sharp accuracy.

Now, there's the other ump that was presiding over the Fed-Tipsaravic game, and she also umped another game, but I now forget. She had a hacking cough that sounded like that Ricola commercial. I can't believe the authorities didn't get a sub for her. There she was barking away into the microphone. I would have slung a ball at her. She wouldn't be able to fine you, because she'd be hacking away, unable to speak.

And then what was up with the ump that screwed Andy Roddick, when he allowed a challenge, even though the player kept playing (you're supposed to stop the play immediately if you want to challenge a no-call). That's plain infuriating. No wonder the players swear and toss their racquets. heh.

  • Yes, in the Slams the female umpires have called Men's matches. About a year ago Sandra de Jenkin was asked to be the umpire for the final of Davis Cup.

  • Sure they do. But apparently last years Australian Open men's final (Federer d. Gonzalez) was the first men's singles Grand Slam final to be umpired by a woman. Off course this woman was Sandra de Jenken from France, one of the best umpires on the tour.

  • Yes women do umpire men's matches. The first major match a woman umpired was the australian open 2 years ago

  • Men's ~ Rogger Fedrer(sorry if spelt wrongly) Vs Rafeal Nadal! Women's Maria Sherapova Vs Serena Williams!

  • Yep, There was one for the Federer-Tipsarevic match two nights ago at the Australian Open. Her name was Allison something... forgot the last name.

  • I think it has happened quite a few times

  • yes they do...there is this one lady that i see all the time doing it...there is no discrimination when it comes to the chair
