Appropriate gifts for Quinceañera?

We are attending a Quinceañera for the daughter of a friends. We have heard that they ate spending a very large amount of money on this event (almost as much as we spent on our wedding). We want to purchase an appropriate gift, but two separate sources have told is that you don't buy gifts for a Quinceañera.

Is this true?

If not, what would be appropriate? A card with money?

The mass amounts of money families will hurl at their little girl's 15th birthday party..yeesh, huh?!

I've been to a few that would rival the Royal Wedding.

Appropriate gifts would include anything monogrammed or personalized. Tiffany makes really beautiful, and reasonably priced, chain bracelets and necklaces with engravable hearts that a 15 yr old girl would love..and will mark her big day. The silver Tiffany's pieces are very popular and perfect for her. You can have her name, or happy Q..or the date on the heart. You can get her an engraved silver keychain (she'll be getting her Driver's perit soon) with her name, or date. There are really great Silver picture frames, or silver boxes that can also be engraved.

It's best to buy something that can be kept forever (marking the date of this spectacular event in her life), as opposed to just a hoodie from Abercrombie, or a gift card from the Gap. Gift cards are great, however..and always fun for the birthday girl. You could get a gift card at any store (I'd opt for Bloomingdales, Macy's, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, or Sacks Fifth Avenue) rather than Victorias Secret (inappropriate) or a trendy teen store. I know that sounds contradictory, because she IS a teen, but this is a really big day in her life, and should be surrounded by a more reserved, and traditional gift. (this includes Gift cards).

You can always opt for the Visa/MAstercard/AmEx gift card, also. Perfectly fine.

It would especially sweet if you went to a florist and picked up one, lovely, single rosebud, (white)..and had them place it in a budvase..you can include the gift card (if you go that route) with it. So she'll have it when the party's over. They'll have very elaborate floral arrangements, but you'd be surprised how a single rosebud will charm the birthday girl. (Impress parents, as well).

Same goes for a magnificent box of chocolates, to go with a gift card..so she has something that's wrapped nicely.

A clock is a nice gift for anyone who's celebrating a milestone birthday, the card indicating that she has so many years ahead..wishing her all the health, happiness and good fortune she deserves..yadayadayada.

Mirrored compacts are engravable..as are larger mirrors, or other personal items.

NOTE:

Don't be surprised to learn all her friends who appear to be 26 yr old women, are, in reality, 15 yrs old. That's the way it is. Do NOT assume any female at a Quincenera is an adult, unless YOU HAVE SEEN HER DRIVERS LICENSE..(ha)

You already know this; but make sure to tell the hosts how lovely and mature their daughter is. Pretend you're her kind, proud Uncle. You'll have fun. Really. Quinceneras are wonderful.

Cash vs Gift/Gift Card ?

Cash just isn't safe. I've attended a few, and there will be a gift table for gifts, as well. All the more reason to include a small, wrapped gift w/a giftcard (she'll have something to open). Just like at weddings, will be opened later/not that night.
