How do you prevent bacterial vaginosis?

I've been having frequent bacterial vaginosis. It started once I became sexually active. The first time I had intercourse I noticed a few weeks later I would have a lot of pain in my stomach. I got checked for stds and it was negative but I had a discharge and now Im thinking I probably had bv back then but the doctors didnt know.I was presribed medication for what they thought was an std but It actually wasnt one and the discharged stop... Few months later I began to have a discharge again and the doctors said that it was a yeast infection but it didnt resemble a yeast infection, so whenever I would have a discharge the doctors would always say it was yeast..And that was always after sex...Recently I went to a new doctor and I had the same discharge and he told me it was bacterial vaginosis..So now im thinking that it probably was always bv and not yeast because yeast is more thicker and cottage cheese like and I always had more of thin liquid like discharge..He prescribed me medication for it and it was metrazondole, I had to crush them because its hard for me to swallow pills..Now I believe I have the same problem again..Do anybody know why this keeps occuring and does it have anything to do with me crushing the pills and not swallowing them whole?Once i took the pills before I didnt have a discharge at all but soon after I had sex I noticed it again..By the way Ive been with the same person and I even notice a discharge when using condoms.,Can someone plz tell me what I should do about this problem and how to prevent it??

Update:

Has anyone else had this problem and is it normal to have a discharge after sex?

  • Bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections often go hand-in-hand - if your bacteria is out of balance then it will likely trigger off a yeast infection too - something is throwing vaginal pH out of whack.

Sex firstly can be the reason - if your partner's semen has a radically different pH to your own that can cause problems, try using condoms for a while (ideally without spermicide) to see if that helps.

Usually when we see reoccurring vaginal infections it's due to improper hygiene - we don't mean not washing enough, but instead we look at over-washing or chemicals in contact with the vagina...

    - Wash daily with water only - no soaps, washes, wipes, douches, etc.

    - Do not use feminine cleansers like Summers Eve.

    - Avoid tampons like the plague - instead use pads or cups.

    - Avoid commercial pads - instead use hypo-allergenic or cloth pads.

    - Do not wear liners daily.
