How do I install a COM port to my computer?
I have recently bought myself a MECER Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) for my computer. It is one of cheaper ones out there but it is doing it job perfectly well. I tested it and it allows me about 20 minutes to finish my work and shutdown.
I just have one slight problem. I can't monitor the UPS. The thing came with monitoring software so that I can see how much battery power I have and to allow the software to auto-shutdown my PC when I am away from the PC (in case of power-failure). However, the only way to connect it to the motherboard is via a COM cable. The port is absent from the back of my computer.
So, how do I install a COM port to my computer?

You may be able to find a PCI card that could be added to your computer that would have COM (Serial) ports on it. But the easiest way would be to buy a converter cable to convert the serial port to USB so you could use it in any USB port on your computer.
There's one here at TigerDirect.

And a slightly cheaper one:

A PCI Card:

And a PCI Express Card (Pricey!)

I would go with the USB cables. Good luck!
ok
u have to buy a cable or a connecter that give u the options to plug the com cable of the ups to the side of the com port of the connector and the other side is a usb to the pc
