Lizard community??????

What species and how many geckos can i keep in a 55 gallon long tank?

Things that the geckos have to have:

-Need to be nocturnal

-Needs to be sprayed once a day only

-Needs to have blue bulb for heat

-Needs to eat crickets

-can climb up walls and trees.

List them like this

EXAMPLE:

Tokay gecko:4

Leapord gecko:2

I would like to have 8 lizards top in a 55 Gallon LONG Tank

Thanks

  • There aren't many nocturnal geckos that can climb up walls and trees.....they call them "day geckos" for a reason...they are diurnal.

    You could put:

    Tokays -1male 3females

    Leopards - 1male 3females

    Giant day geckos - 1male 2females

    Lined Leaftail geckos - 1male 2females

    Giant leaftail geckos - 1male 4females

    Mossy Leaftail - 1 male 5 females

    House geckos - 12 geckos

    Crested Geckos - 1male 5 females

Halamahara Giant Geckos - 1 male 2 females

Halamahara Giant gecko are prob your best bet.....they are nocturnal, can climb walls, can be sprayed once a day, don't need too much heat-a small wattage UVB bulb is all, they eat crickets

  • your plan of keeping in a 55 gallon tank, and "can climb up walls and trees" is not a good combination. Geckos that like to climb need a TALL tank. a 55g is plenty long enough, but it isnt tall enough. You would be better off building a custom enclosure that is approximately 3ft high to ensure plenty of climbing space. Why prevent a lizard from doing what it is suppose to do naturally? Dont get a giant day gecko. They are not nocturnal. hence the reason they call them day geckos. Also, it really isnt advisable to mix species of geckos. some of them are very aggressive and territorial. You could posibly do this

    1m Leopard

    2-3f Leopard

But there are things to consider. Are they all aproximately the same size? are they babies or sexually mature? do you have the time to watch them as much as possible to make sure they arent nipping at eachother, picking on eachother, or keeping another one from obtaining food? do you have seperate enclosures available so when you notice that this combination wasnt the greatest idea, you can seperate them all? What happens if they start to breed? can you provide the proper care for eggs, babies, and where are you going to put all these new critters? some geckos have the tendancy to eat eachother, make sure you do alot of research before trying to house a bunch of them together. You wont get enough good answers from a question on here. Good luck with whatever u decide to go with

  • I would say 55 gallon is a good amount but th 8 lizards try 5 or 6 that should e good so they all have a territorial mark..good luck! -Lily Allen♥☻☺

  • Think of their environmental, dietary and territorial requirements if having taken those into consideration you work out that hey will go together then good luck to you. Personally I'm not keen on mixing species

  • I think you could keep over a dozen geckos in there. You can also put some Anoles in there since they are active in the daytime. I would expect some escapes. They are VERY fast btw. An electric heated rock is good for basking. Most geckos are pretty shy btw.

  • ive heard that tokay geckos are very agressive and may start on your leos. it might turn into one big fight. make sure theyre female or you have a large amount of females to males. i dont think thats a great idea to be honest :s

i really wouldent recomend a hot rock after what ive heard about particular "hot spots" that have proven to seriously burn reptiles and could even kill them :(
