Do cell phones cause cancer?

My grandparents just read about this in the paper and I'm sure this is BS. Am I right or wrong?

  • The claim: Radiation emitted from your cell phone could travel through your skull and into your brain, creating tumors.

    The reality: Cell phones actually expose you to non-iodizing radiofrequency (RF), which means it doesn’t have enough energy to damage your DNA and form a pre-cancerous cell. So far, no evidence exists that radiofrequency exposure causes tumors, even in animals, says Melissa Bondy, Ph.D., professor of epidemiology at MD Anderson and director of the Childhood Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention Center.

    Still, Bondy says, we should be more cautious with our cell phones. That’s especially true for kids, whose developing brains could be most vulnerable to radiofrequency exposure.

    It could take decades for us to see stronger evidence on the relationship between tumors and cell phone use because widespread use of cell phones didn’t begin until the mid-1990s.

    “We don’t know if cell phones could cause tumors,” Bondy says. “More research needs to be done.”

    The advice: To be safe, try these simple tips:

    * Purchase a cell phone with a low absorption rate. You can find cell phones’ absorption rates on the Federal Communications Commission’s website.

    * Limit the conversations you have with your cell phone to your ear.

    * Limit children’s cell phone use.

    * Use a landline when possible.

    * Use a headset.

    * Use a speaker phone.

    * Send text messages (except while driving!).

  • Everyone who thinks that cell phones cause cancer are scared of the word "radiation". But in reality, microwave radiation is non-ionizing, meaning that it does not have the energy required to tear electrons from atoms. Visible light is a form of radiation and it s wavelengths are closer to those that are ionizing. So in reality if cell phones do cause cancer, than that light bulb or the light bouncing in through your curtains is going to kill you first...

    The reason that the whole "cellphones cause cancer" thing has gotten so far is because people seem to remember being on their phone a lot after they are told they have cancer.

    The only way microwaves are going to kill you is if they are able to build up enough heat to burn you to death.

  • it was on the radio this morning...using cell phones can INCREASE RISK of brain cancers.. notice increase risk, the same way smoking increases the risk...they still do not know enough to say for sure it causes it as it might no be the only reason...i.e. business people use cell phones alot, and probably live a stressful/busy lifestyle which could increase risk of developing cancer...everyone is at risk really it just depends on what you do which could cause it.. (not all people who smoke get cancer for instance)

  • your wrong, they just came out with a study, putting them in the risk for cancer category, just try not to eat more then 3 a day, and always brush afterwards, nothing like someone with nasty cell phone breath.

  • Why don’t you try reading the article yourself and see what it says?

    No they do not cause cancer.

  • CELL PHONE DO NOT CAUSE CANCER,NOT PROVED TILL TODAY.

  • gee i hope not
