"Silk" milk = a soy milk or a coconut milk?

Is "silk" a type of soy milk brand or coconut milk?

It does not taste anything like coconut. Had it at a friend's place, because it's what her husband drinks who is lactose-intolerant.

I'm vegetarian.

Update:

I didn't BUY it, I just HAD some at my friends house. Did not even personally touch the carton. So I wouldn't have seen whether or not it said "soy." All's I saw was "silk", and asked what it was, and got the very simple answer "well, it's not cow's milk, if that's what your asking. It's a different kind, for my husband because he's lactose intolerant. Want to try some?"

  • Silk is just brand name - you can see that they have that circled r above the name - that means it is registered trademark.

If it says soy milk than it comes from soybeans..

Soy milk (also called soya milk, soymilk, soybean milk, or soy juice) and sometimes referred to as soy drink/beverage is a beverage made from soybeans. A stable emulsion of oil, water, and protein, it is produced by soaking dry soybeans and grinding them with water. Soy milk contains about the same proportion of protein as cow's milk: around 3.5%; also 2% fat, 2.9% carbohydrate, and 0.5% ash. Soy milk can be made at home with traditional kitchen tools or with a soy milk machine.

The coagulated protein from soy milk can be made into tofu, just as dairy milk can be made into cheese.

  • "Silk" is a BRAND of vegetarian milks. Silk Soymilk, Silk Almondmilk, Silk Coconutmilk.

  • Silk milk is a soy milk.

  • The carton says "soymilk" right under "Silk"
