Do I need a car A/C specialist?

I have 94 Honda Civic that needs a new A/C pump installed (at a minimum). Is it better to go to an air conditioning specialist or a regular mechanic? Which is cheaper?

    any mechanic that does a/c work should be able to handle this. make sure he checks for any metal in the lines from the failed compressor. if it's left in there, it will kill the new one in short order. cars and refrigerators take different refrigerant, and you wouldn't save any money. take it to one shop, and have them fix it all the way.

    A general mechanic will probably be a little cheaper, but an a/c specialist will have all the equipment to properly diagnose, evacuate and re-charge your system.

    go to a regular mechanic to fit the pump then a fridge repairer to pump in the gas for you you can save a fortune
