I think people group with those most like them whether it's a group of Marines, a group of Jews, or a group of black people. From there it breaks down further into more meaningful groups like a group of engineers within the marine group or sunday school class at the synagogue. As people realize the traits in others that are more familiar to them, the original identifiers like skin color or other affiliation will matter less. In other words, people are all racist to a point but not because of hate but because of familiarity.
