Why do conservatives demonize communist icons as mass murderers?
My professor says that 20 million people did not die in Stalin's forced labor camps. It is a myth invented by right-wing revisionist historians. Stalin was a hero who turned the Soviet Union into a superpower. He brought fairness, equality, social justice and universal healthcare. Mao did the same thing in China.

No the estimation is closer to 30 million people. Then where did those people go? They disappeared, where'd they go? Mao killed an estimated 60 million, Pol Pot in Cambodia, 2 million which was about 1/3 of the country's populace. I'd say communism ALONE killed an estimated 100 million. It wasn't all because of paranoid security or authoritarian purposes, some of these people died from starvation.
The Soviets became a "superpower" because they cut themselves off from the rest of the world after the communists took over. After WWII, they, along with the U.S., because they were the only real true big nations with working and "stable" economies, they by default were the only two superpowers left standing. Europe's economy had pretty much crumbled. And China, thanks to the U.S. and globalization, unlike the U.S.S.R. ever did, has embraced capitalism and has reaped the benefits of it.
Equality in communism is a sick joke. Read up about how the Chinese treated homosexuals. I think it was ten years ago that they decriminalized it and just within the last five years that they, thanks in large part to UN pressure, removed it from their list of mental illnesses.

Your professor might be a communist. Ask him about the Mongolian Great Purge. 18,000 Buddhist Lamas were executed. Mass graves being found as late as 2002. Even Nikita Khrushchev, Stalin's successor, in 1956 condemned Stalin. Had his statues torn down. Question everything. Especially a professor who calls Stalin a hero!? I have to wonder if he has a fondness for the North Korean leader?
Stalin did bring free healthcare and all that also state atheism though he was still a tryant who turned the USSR into a police state.
Your professors an idiot and should not be teaching. Stalin had a death toll of 30 million. Mao, 100 million. Almost all of them were innocent lives that were not responsible for a thing. Tell me the name of your professor. I would gladly email him and have a discussion over this topic.
