Keeping Carp as a Pet?
Hi
My grandfather has a pond in his backyard, and this week, we got n 18-inch common carp that we are planning to keep in the pond. I wanted to know what I should feed it, and if it eats other fish. There are a few goldfish in the pond, and I don't want them getting eaten. Also, should we take out the chlorine from the water (we get it from a hose).
Thanks! I appreciate it!
Update:To Yuki: So the carp won't eat the goldfish? (They are 5-6 inches long) Also, are they okay in cold water?

1) Carp are mostly herbivorous, but all fish will eat smaller fish (smaller = can fit in the larger fish's mouth, not just "is smaller than the larger fish"). You're best off feeding it koi pellets.
2) Taking the chlorine out would be a good thing, yes. I'm sure they sell pond-sized bottles of water conditioner at the pet store - just run the water into a bucket, add conditioner, and pour into the pond.
Well, goldfish are in the carp family, and they are kept as pets. I don't see why not, you would just need a big place to put it. We had wild catfish once as pets.
