Math Problem Help (8th Grade)?
The question is:
Kate rents 5 CD's from the video store at a total cost of $12. If new releases cost $3 a night and older movies cost $2 a night, how many new releases did Kate rent?
I know the answer is 2, but my teacher wants us to write an equation.
I've been working on this for at least an hour. help?

New=n
old=o
n = $3,o = $2
Kate = 5 cd's , spent = $12 , new=$4,old=$6 so 2 n releases.
5 rents ok 12$ -3+2+5 releases little kid
Let x = new releases and y equal old.
3x + 2y = 12
a: number of new releases
b: number of older movies
a + b = 5
3a + 2b = 12
b = 5 - a
3a + 2(5-a) = 12
a + 10 = 12
a = 2 <--- Answer
