westell 6100 problem?

I'm having a problem with my westell thing... sometimes it wont pick up any connection... like when i switch it on or connect it the power light goes on but it goes on red and the DSL, ETHERNET AND INTERNET light dont go on, whats up with that?

  • It could be a defective westell 6100 modem.

Power light being red normally means the firmware is not reading it off the flash.

Check your DSL provider and call in about the issue. They could get you a replacement (unless you own it in which you have to call Westell to replace if under warranty or purchase another DSL modem if not under warranty)

Another possibility is the line has too much noise. Have the ISP do a line test on your modem (and they might ask you to connect and disconnect trap as well as phone to see if the line is good)

But normally, the power light should not be red and that would tell me it is a DSL modem issue. If it is a line issue or connection issue, the Internet or DSL light would be continuously blinking or off with a solid green power light on the modem

  • Westell 6100 Firmware

  • You could have noise in your phone line, call the phone company and ask them to do a sweep test on your line, it's free. They will call you back and let you know if they see any issues.

  • Did you run the cd that came with it?

    Do you have a router?
