How do you pick a career?
Im a junior in HS right now and that time for researching colleges is upon us. I have no idea what to look for because I have no idea what I want to go into in life. I have no idea what my major will be and I have no idea what I post college life will be. I've taken career quizzes and the results have been inconclusive and not to my liking. I honestly have no idea what I should do. Does anybody have any advice that would benefit me?

Make sure you know what you are interested in. For instance, what classes have you like the best in high school, or even better, what types of activities do you like doing the best in high school. If you are not quite sure what you want to do, it is best not to choose a school specified for one specific field, such as a technology or arts focused school. The best option you have is to find a college that provides a decent undergraduate degree at a reasonable cost: in state is best. Even if you don't know what you want to do before college, at least go on a plan that has you finish undergraduate in four years so you can come out of college with as little debt as possible. Also, make sure to do research for scholarships. This is probably one of the best spent uses of your time as a junior. Talk to your school guidance councilor about these as well as possible career choices. There should also be college fairs around your area that will show you what their college offers. Possibly talk to working professionals or try to find a short internship in a particular area to see if you have interest. If you have time, take college tours in the summer and see which one suits you. Hope this helped
When I was in High school my dad made all of the kids in my family go and see a Career Psychologist. She had us take a bunch of tests and then talked with us for a while and then told us what she thought a good career match would be for us. I went to college and still had no idea what I wanted to do. While there I took a course in psychology and liked it(up until that point really had no interest in school same as you)I decided to major in it and graduated with a B.A. in psychology. I have always been interested in kids I get them and they get me. So when I first went to college I thought of something with kids. But anyway got out school and still had no idea what to do I like cooking and decided to go to school to be a chef. I got my degree in cooking and have been a chef for the past 19 years at the same place(cant believe it is going to be 20 years I am not that old). Have you tried any sort of apprenticeship programs where you can get some real life experience in something you may want to do before you actually put down all the money for school..
Well at this stage of your life, you should know what you want to be. Picking a carreer you like is very important. you don't want to choose a career and realize you don't like it, all the time and money(loans) will stack up. Settle down for a mnute in your life and do some searching as to what you like and/or love to do.Example: do you like animals, then you might look into being a veternarian. Do you like working on cars then you might be a certified mechanic. hope this helps.
