Ramadan..Why do muslims not eat pork products?
Is this purely a religious reason, and if so why? Or if deemed unhealthy, then surely lamb is also fatty and unhealthy?

The Christian is likely to be convinced by his religious scriptures. The Bible prohibits the consumption of pork, in the book of Leviticus
"And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be cloven footed, yet he chewer not the cud; he is unclean to you".
"Of their flesh shall ye not eat, and their carcass shall ye not touch, they are unclean to you."
[Leviticus 11:7-8]
Pork is also prohibited in the Bible in the book of Deuteronomy
"And the swine, because it divider the hoof, yet chewer not the cud, it is unclean unto you. Ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcass."

A similar prohibition is repeated in the Bible in the book of Isaiah chapter 65 verse 2-5.
3. Consumption of pork causes several diseases
The other non-Muslims and atheists will agree only if convinced through reason, logic and science. Eating of pork can cause no less than seventy different types of diseases. A person can have various hemlines like roundworm, pin worm, hookworm, etc. One of the most dangerous is Taenia Solium, which is in lay man’s terminology called tapeworm. It harbours in the intestine and is very long. Its ova i.e. eggs, enter the blood stream and can reach almost all the organs of the body. If it enters the brain it can cause memory loss. If it enters the heart it can cause heart attack, if it enters the eye it can cause blindness, if it enters the liver it can cause liver damage. It can damage almost all the organs of the body.
Another dangerous helminthes is Trichura Tichurasis. A common misconception about pork is that if it is cooked well, these ova die. In a research project undertaken in America, it was found that out of twenty-four people suffering from Trichura Tichurasis, twenty two had cooked the pork very well. This indicates that the ova present in the pork do not die under normal cooking temperature.

Pork has very little muscle building material and contains excess of fat. This fat gets deposited in the vessels and can cause hypertension and heart attack. It is not surprising that over 50% of Americans suffer from hypertension.
5. Pig is one of the filthiest animals on earth
The pig is one of the filthiest animals on earth. It lives and thrives on muck, faeces and dirt. It is the best scavenger that I know that God has produced. In the villages they don’t have modern toilets and the villagers excrete in the open air. Very often excreta is cleared by pigs.
Some may argue that in advanced countries like Australia, pigs are bred in very clean and hygienic conditions. Even in these hygienic conditions the pigs are kept together in sties. No matter how hard you try to keep them clean they are filthy by nature. They eat and enjoy their own as well as their neighbour’s excreta.
6. Pig is the most shameless animal
The pig is the most shameless animal on the face of the earth. It is the only animal that invites its friends to have sex with its mate. In America, most people consume pork. Many times after dance parties, they have swapping of wives; i.e. many say "you sleep with my wife and I will sleep with your wife." If you eat pigs then you behave like pigs. We Indians look upon America to be very advanced and sophisticated. Whatever they do, we follow after a few years. According to an article in Island magazine, this practice of swapping wives has become common in the affluent circles of Bombay.
It depends on which Muslims you ask. Some branches of Islam stop considering you Muslim if you skip one or two of your daily prayers. For the most part, though, they consider it a sin because it's not halal (the Islamic equivalent of kosher). If you eat it unknowingly, such as the gentleman who thought he was eating a turkey product, or if you're intentionally tricked into eating something by being told it is something else, then you didn't intend to sin, so few Muslims would blame you for it. However, Muslims are expected not to eat food they don't know the ingredients of for that very reason, so "I didn't know" isn't much of an excuse if you just didn't bother to find out, especially when finding out the source of the ingredients in your food is so readily available these days. If you're Muslim (and this is good advice for pretty much anyone): When in doubt, go find out. As for gelatin, no... they are not allowed to eat gelatin made from pigs. Pork product. Not halal. There are vegetable based gelatins which can be substituted instead.
What many of us forget: is that we all come from the same faith more or less. It is a carry-over from the Jewish faith of not eating pork because in anceint times - pigs were the animals that cleaned the streets in ancients times of olden cities such as Jersuleum. See, nobody had any running water, no garbage disposals and no bathroms so: what did you do with they do with their waste products - thew it all into the street. Streets were made for this very reason and they were channeled. Then, the pigs came along and starting eating "everything" as pigs will do today!!!
This is why is was a big deal to wash someone's feet "for them" as was done to Jesus. This is why the Rabbi's said DON'T EAT THE PIGS - NO PORK! As Abraham (a Jew) is the father of the Muslim religion - it is a carryover so to speak. See, if we all read the Old "Testament: we see that Ruth, Abraham's wife was too old and "barren" to bear him sons. He "took" his slave as his wife and she bore him a son. However, God performed a miracle and told Abraham that for his continued prayers, devotion and his service, Ruth would be "with child" and bear him a son even in their advance age: when Ruth delivered their son - she sent the maid away along with her son into the desert and ostracized her. BAD MOVE ON RUTH'S PART. She was so angry and so upset as were her people that they formed their own religion that being Muslim of which they borrowed much of the Jewish fath, adding in some of their own and TEACHING THEIR CHILDEN AND THEIR CHILDREN'S CHILDREN to HATE THE JEWS BECAUSE OF THIS ONE INJUSTICE. First and foremost,Allah(SWT) does not forbid anything unless that thing is harmful.Pigs are the dirtiest animals I know and thus even if Allah(SWT) did not forbid it,I won't dare eat that.I really think it is also VERY unhealthy (NOT only because it is fatty).
Because Allah ordered us in the Quran not to eat pork, and we obey.

"So why was it forbidden for the Israelites in the Old Testament to eat unclean foods but it is OK now?", you may as ask. God had physical laws for physical Israel (the 12 tribes of Israel) to show spiritual Israel (believers in Christ) what we should be doing spiritually. As physical Israel was to avoid putting "unclean" physical food inside their physical bodies, we as spiritual Israel are to avoid putting "unclean" spiritual food inside us. Some examples of unclean spiritual food are greediness, hate, lying, selfishness, and deception. By keeping these out of our spiritual bodies , we can grow closer to Christ (thus spiritually).
Many don't see the relationship between physical Israel and spiritual Israel. I hope this gives you better understanding of God and the Bible.
The Passover Lamb in Exodus (12:6) saved the Israelites from physical death by shedding its blood. It was a perfect lamb physically. It died on the 14th of Nisan. Jesus died on the cross and saves those who have faith in Him from spiritual death. He was perfect spiritually--He never sinned. He died on the 14th of Nisan.
Also, when the Israelites were in the desert for forty years, they ate bread from Heaven--manna. It saved them from physical death. Jesus, our spiritual bread, (John 6:32-33) saves us from spiritual death.
In Exodus 17, the Israelites need physical water to drink, so the rock was struck and physical water was available for the Israelites to drink to save them from physical death. Jesus is the spiritual rock that gives us spiritual water (the Holy Spirit) that saves us from spiritual death.
Here is Jesus stating this in John chapter 7---John 7:37 On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink.
John 7:38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.”
John 7:39 By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive... NIV
Muslims are prohibited from eating pork since it is a religion of Satan. Satan wants to take the Muslims mind off of Jesus and what He did on the cross for salvation and put it on things that don't bring salvation like OT regulations like unclean foods.
