Has my doctor made a mistake?

I haven't had a period on about 3 months now.

In mid december I went to the doctor because I thought I might be pregnant.

Well she gave me a urine pregnancy test and it was negatiave.

She put me on Provera Progesterone to induce my period, I took 10 pills for the 10 days.

My last pill I took was on Jan 1st. Now it's Jan 4th and I haven't gotten my period yet.

Do you think the negative urine test was wrong and I could be pregnant?

Maybe I didn't have enough hormone levels to detect?

Or should I wait it out to see if my period comes?

How accurate are doctor's urine pregnancy tests?

  • I have taken Provera 2 times already. The first time I took it I started on day 8 of taking the pills. The second time my period didnt' show up for 2 weeks after taking them. It can take up to 2 weeks after taking the provera before period might show. If it doesn't show in a couple of weeks. Sometimes provera doesn't work for some people. Good luck to you.

  • Doctors use the same type of test that you would buy at like a dollar tree or a cheap store like that, which works just as well as any other test that you buy, whether it be a 20 dollar or a 1 dollar test...they measure the same amount of HCG...

But anyway, I would go back and demand a blood test or ultra sound cause there has been many cases in which your HCG level is just low and isnt detected on the pregnancy pee test....if there is still nothing in the blood test and they do an ultrasound they may be able to find it there is anything medically wrong that needs to be fixed...

    GOOD LUCK!!

  • The urine tests that they do in the office, are the same grade as the ones you can buy in the stores. If you think you might be, take a HPT and see what that says. If it still says negative, call your doc and tell them you want a blood test. HPT don't work on everyone, some throw a false negative.

  • There are some women that actually are pregnant but urine tests will still show up negative. Have your doc give you a blood test, or an ultrasound. Take another test yourself, and then ask for a blood test.

  • Ask for a blood test. You can get a fake negative, but it is way more unlikely that you get a fake positive. I would go to your family doctor and ask for a blood pregnancy test to make sure. There is no telling what those pills couldve done to your fetus.

  • if you dont get your period in about another week, go back to your doctors and get a blood test done

theyre very accurate and you will know for sure if you're pregnant or not

  • Maybe you should ask for a blood test or an ultrasound. Yes, doctors can make mistake.

  • try to see if you can have a blood test done but first do a home pregnancy test.

  • I'd call the doctor and let them know whats happening. They may want to re-test you.
