How do I phrase this naturally?

It takes me about 40 minutes to drive to the school, and about 40 minutes to drive back home.

Is it correct to say: it takes me about 1 hour and 20 minutes to drive back and forth to the school?

My big problem here is that I don't know where's the right place to insert the word the school.

I will highly appreciate your help. Please, no trolling here. I am serious about learning English.

  • There's nothing wrong with the way that is phrased.

  • Try saying:

It takes me around a hour and 20 minutes to drive to school and back.

Tip: When you're talking about one hour or one minute or something like that, you should just put "a."

  • One way you could say it is:

I have a 1 hour and 20 minute round trip to school.

  • The drive to school is about forty minutes each way.
